a night with the girls. the little girls that is!

We got to hang with some pretty cool girls on tuesday night, Della and Aliya! These two are the cutest things ever. I wish I could record Della's voice, it's the most precious thing in the whole wide world!

We are also known as "Mic-uh & Hunny" from Aliya. Too cute!

Here's Uncle Mic-uh, Daddy, Mommy (behind Mic-uh) Aliya (left), and Della (middle) playing with the blocks and trucks. Oh yes, these aren't girly-girls, they like their bulldozers, front loaders, and trucks!

Multi-tasker Aliya, as Mic-uh put it "Getting a date for friday night on the phone, and earning a scholarship with the violin." ha ha, he's soooo funny!

Here's a video of the amazing blocks and trucks that were such a hit!

We love that we have so many great nieces and nephews that we can get our inner kid out! They truly are a blessing, and so much fun!

the olympics

FYI: the logo for the 2010 olympics logo is based on the Inukshuk (stone landmark or cairn) built for the Northwest Territories Pavilion at Expo 86 and donated to the City of Vancouver after the event. It is now used as a landmark on English Bay Beach.

To me it looks like a marshmallow man. Or Gumby.

We've had a lot of fun these past nights watching the olympics! Gaye and I got so anxious when we watched the men's 500m speed skate last night! And poor Lindsay Vonn for crashing, but do they really need to keep on showing the image over and over again?! Her knee into her chin was hurtful to watch!

On another note, I went into the dentist again to see what's going on with my tooth (3rd time) the one I got a root canal on. It seems the infection hasn't broken up yet, and they will have to go in through the gums to get to the tip and get it. Bummer. I'm just ready for this to be done.

the weekend

we've been so busy these past couple of weeks. but then again we haven't. there's been a lot of down time, and a lot of running around.

some exciting news was that my mom came up for a week! it's always so good to see her, she's always so silly. she gives everyone she knows a nickname (mine is two-ton-tawni, and micah's is micah-mouse). we had a great time catching up, and going out to eat.

here's her and kairie. i love kai-baby's arm rolls.

micah, blake, whitney, and i did some rock climbing @ the indoor "rock house" in logan. the belaying was the hardest part, whitney (blake's date) and i were very skeptical about the whole situation...blake and micah outweigh us by a lot. but it was great, and whitney showed us all up on her first time up the wall. but our forearms hurt a lot.

ha ha another funny moment was when micah was belaying blake, and he left him a foot off the ground joking around. good thing micah could kind of put up a fight with blake.

so hope all is well with everyone else! i have more pics to post, but my camera is in the other car. we had a fun night with some cute little gals last night!

grateful too

reading one of my friends blogs, dana and wes, it was so inspiring. sometimes you don't realize how lucky we are to have a significant other in each other's lives, until you don't get to communicate for a little while.

they're in germany right now, while he is in the army. they won't get to have much communication for about a month, and she has to come back to the states go get some good ol' usa hospital care.

i'm lucky and grateful for my job with micah. since i work as a receptionist at his dad's work, micah will call in throughout the day to talk to one of the agents, and i get to chat with him for a minute each call. then we get home around 5 and get to spend the rest of the night together, even go to the gym (ok ok you caught us, we've been slacking) but dana made me realize that i am grateful for the chance to clean up after him, have two sets of ironing to do, have two different shoes to put away at night, and two different folding techniques in laundry. and it's all worth it :)

so thank you dana. i'll look forward to more ironing tonight!

.love day 2010.

this will be our 5th Valentine's Day together! i didn't even realize that until today. wow, time does fly by!

we had an early start with my newer car that i got on thursday night, and we went to the melting pot on friday night, it's a fondue restaurant in downtown SLC, so filling! it takes at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours for a meal there :) i got my flowers at work on friday too, and then on saturday i got my upgrade to a white blackberry curve phone, and spa afternoon of massage, pedi and mani. yes i got way too spoiled. does anyone else feel bad that this is sometimes a girl's day?!?!

we went up to Logan for the weekend and had some heart shaped pizza by Papa Murphy's, and then just had fun talking and chilling the rest of the weekend.

valentine's Day is so corny, i think, but micah makes me see it in a different light every year. we always go over what we like or didn't like about each other, this year we both agreed how comfortable we are with each other, how we can sit at a table and not talk, talk for hours at bedtime, laugh at the silliest stupid things, get so mad at each other one minute, then 5 minutes later we're laughing at what we were mad at.

i love how micah always gives me a kiss when he gets home from work. i love how he is a giant toddler all the time. when he sends me a random text of "i heart you". when he tells me i'm being crazy and he's going to walk away, very polite of course. when he gets a treat he's always willing to share. when he opens car doors for me every time. acknowledges that i'm strong enough to carry heavier things, but will still carry everything in. i love him.

what else did we love about this weekend? we got to see little kairie, she's such a growler these days. that's how she talks to everyone, with a growl. her depth-perception is getting better every week, and she grabbed her bottle and put it in her mouth this weekend {pretty impressive for a 5 month old} she giggles like crazy at random things. she likes to play a game of bonk your head against grandpa kenny for fun. she loves, loves door jumpers. she loves everyone and anyone. she's just happy to be held and talked to. she hates hates applesauce, pears, peaches, and strawberries, she gags on them. and she never gets tired of aunt tawni taking pictures of her.

i finally finished my first projects. there the headbands that all the younger girls are wearing these days. my nieces wanted some really bad, so i made these four for them:

hmmm. now i need to start on another project now.

best hubby EVER.

Seriously. Best huby ever. I got an early Valentine's Day present this year. Micah threw me a bag and I pulled out a shirt that said "German Sign Language", I didn't really get it, until I looked in the bottom of the bag and found these lil' guys:

Yep, you guessed it, I got my white car!!! I was so excited we jumped right in and took it for a spin!

(P.S. This is Micah, Nobody had any Idea this was going to happen. ha ha ha Look at the surprised face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Childhood Stories

Since we've moved in with Sr. Platts I've had the opportunity to hear more about Micah as a child. He was a little terd, but it fits because I was a little brat. So here's some funny stories about both of us...a little embarassing, but it's all good :)

TAWNI AFTON JENSEN:

I have 3 other siblings, there's two girls and two boys. The order is: Ashley, Me, Travis, Ryan. All very close in age (1 year apart, and Ryan is 2 years behind travis). Here's us and our dad the day #4 was born:

Yes, my dad dressed us all. I'm rocking the horizontal pink striped shirt, and vertical striped blue pants. And yes, Travis is sporting suspenders with elastic banding on his pants (???)

Tawni memory #1:

Since we are all close in age, my mom had us all potty-trained in record time (My grandma still doesn't know how she did this) by age 2 we were all pros at using the potty.

My mom would always remind us before we went anywhere to not go the bathroom in our pants. This special day we were in Sears and I had to go, luckily there was an assortment of toilets in Sears to go to the bathroom in. So I picked one out and went potty right there in the Sears display toilet.

I didn't understand plumbing when I was 2, and the best part was my mom couldn't be mad at me because I didn't go to the bathroom in my pants, and she didn't know what else to do but laugh.

MICAH DAVID RICHARD PLATT:

Micah has 2 older sisters, Camie and Brittany. All spaced 3 years apart, and Cam and Brit were just "angels" as Micah puts it. Gaye had no idea what boys really do, since she had no boy cousins her age, no brothers, no uncles, and two girls before Micah she was a little confused as to why Micah did what he did.

Micah memory #1:

Gaye: "Micah, what don't you understand about the word 'NO'??"

Micah: "The 'N'."

Another time:

Gaye: "How many times do I have to tell you?"

Micah: "3,208."

Sorry I don't have a scanner to post pictures of Micah when he was little, but here's one from Sophomore year of college. In the lime green.

Tawni Memory #2:

Location: In Shopko shopping for a coat for Ashley.
FYI: My mom had bought me a coat a week earlier, and I loved The Wizard of Oz.
Age: 4

Me: "I want a coat!"

Maisie: "You just got a coat last week."

Me: "I like this one better!"

Maisie: "No tawns."

Throwing myself on the Shopko floor I scream out:

"YOU WICKED. OLD. WI-TCH!!"

Cue my mom picking me up in one arm, and storming out of Shopko.

Micah memory #2:

Now I'm going to try and re-tell this to the best of my memory.

Location: Micah's house in SLC.

The Platt's had pet rabbits in the backyard. The cage/pen they were in was too high for Micah to reach. The rabbits kept getting out of the cage, and they would hide in the very back corner of the deck, so no one could reach them.

One day a rabbit got out and Gaye and the girls couldn't catch the lil' bugger to get him back in. While Gaye was teaching piano, Micah decided it was his mission to catch the rabbit. Well he succeeded, but the problem was he couldn't put the rabbit back in the cage because it was too high.

Gaye gets done teaching, and Micah excitedly tells her the adventure of catching the rabbit. Gaye is so excited and proud of him too, and asks where the rabbit is.

Micah: "I putt-eded in my room." he replied.

Oh good childhood stories for both of us.

College graduate looking for a job? Micah's Job Adventures

I was still so happy and relieved about yesterdays news about us getting out of the townhome, that I forgot to tell you about Micah's interview. It's with the company that he is with now, Auto-Owners Insurance. I think we've explained before, Micah is NOT an insurance salesman/agent, he's who your insurance agent calls when they have questions or need an accommodation. His job title is "Company Underwriter".

Now here's my turn to be prideful Brit! Micah is a people pleaser, sometimes it's a bad thing (like when people walk all over him) but in this case it's an AMAZING thing. He's done amazing with Auto-Owners Insurance, he's been awarded two customer service awards in his 7 months there, and agents all over the state of Utah love talking with Micah. He also is getting recognized back in Michigan at the corporate headquarters.

In March he's going back to Lansing Michigan for a week to do some training, and also gets to network and meet the Home Office crew. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sooo excited for him, but Michigan? It's windy-cold there! Brrr... ha ha. Maybe one day we'll be back there if Micah keeps working his tail off.

Also in March, Micah's boss contacted him to see what he would think about setting up a booth at USU's job fair. They have seen the quality of Utah college educated people, and they are in love with it, even the Rugby players :) So if anyone is going to graduate, or graduated go look into Auto-Owners Insurance at the job fair March 3rd at 7 to 1 in the TSC. Great benefits, amazing work hours (8-4:30), family oriented company, they always promote from within, and never had a lay-off ever in the history of the company.

So congratulations and good luck to my hubby!

A Sigh of Relief

Here's our life story so far this past month and a half: Micah will be going to Michigan in March for meetings, we have signed a year lease on the town home in Herriman. We decided that we needed to save some money and try and get out of the lease. So we met with our landlords a month ago and discussed our options and what the next step would be. Long story short, they had said they had renters and they would be able to move in February 1st.

Reality is the "renters" flaked out, our landlords weren't communicating with us and we had already started to get ready to move. So just in case we weren't going to be paying double rent, we moved in with Micah's parents :)

Micah got a call yesterday and they had found renters finally! They will be moving in on Friday and we're officially out! We've also decided to bunk with Sr. Platts until Micah gets back from Michigan in March and we'll know where we'll end up! So pray that everything will go great, and we'll know where we'll end up!!
