Lesson Learned

I love my wedding ring. Even though I couldn't see it when Micah proposed to me because it was dark and there was only candlelight around us (I was too excited to examine it). Micah did such an amazing job designing the ring :)

I had told him I wanted an emerald cut, and something vintage with pavet diamonds in it. This is what he came up with:

Sorry you can't see it that well. But this is about the only picture I have of my first wedding ring. Yep you read that right, my FIRST one.

I was a nanny in San Diego and the oldest kid, who was 6, decided that it would be much prettier going down the toilet.

Now you may be asking "Why did you just leave it out?" You see I was a nanny, and I didn't wear my ring 24/7 because I was constantly putting sunblock on kids, cleaning up, wiping snot...etc. So I would leave it in my jewelry case when I was going to be at work all day. I had thought that it was out of harms way with a 6, 4, and 2 year old in the house (My mistake, nothing is ever safe from little kids) and thought nothing of it.

When I went to go get my ring out of the jewelry case I had noticed a chair beside the armoire, and my jewelry case had been pulled to the side..."Oh no. no. no. no. no." I was thinking to myself. Because earlier that morning the little terd was in my room and I kept hearing the toilet flush over and over again. So I yelled at him from downstairs to get out of my room and to finish getting ready for school.

Yep. Sure enough the little terd had flushed my wedding ring down the toilet. He confessed when I picked him up from school later that day. He didn't have an explanation as to why he did flush it (he shrugged his shoulders and looked away)

Well good thing that Micah's dad is an insurance agent and thinks about these things constantly. He had made sure that the ring was on Micah's rental policy when he purchased it. Whenever you schedule something on your homeowner's or rental policy it covers stolen or lost property that is valuable. But you need to get it appraised of the value, and send it in to your insurance company.

So after we had filed a claim, and called the man who made the first one to make a second one it was ready to be picked up a month later. This time around I decided to not get all three rings connected together, and a little bigger diamond (our appraisal on the ring was more money than what we originally paid, so the insurance sent us out what it was appraised at, not what we paid) But we never got the new ring appraised...I just didn't want to part with it I guess...

So I'm am ring-less right now because we dropped it off yesterday. My hand feels sooo bare without it. Micah teases me that I'm not a married woman, and he can now take advantage of an "un-married woman" ha ha. NOT. I beat him up with pillows when he jokes like that!

So there's a lesson about not leaving anything valuable out for kids, and to make sure that your ring is scheduled on your homeowner's or rental policy. Because you never know when it could be lost...or flushed down the toilet!

I still remember when you told me about your ring getting flushed... My stomach dropped. But I'm SO glad you got the new one without too much heartache!! :) Oh, and I couldn't wear my wedding ring the last few weeks of being prego because my fingers were too swollen!! I was so nervous of what people would think of me, when a guy at sports academy actually asked me if I was going to be lonely as a single mother!!! Can you believe that??? Some stupid people actually might think you're a hussy... haha
