My Grandpa

*me and my grandpa jensen*

Raymond Dorian Jensen

April 24, 1934 -June 26, 2006

He was born very premature. The doctor didn't even put a birthweight on the birth certificate, told Great Grandma Lucille that "He wasn't more than a bar of soap after a hard days' work." He was too little for diapers, so she wrapped him up in cotton and put him on the oven door to stay warm. "It's a wonder he ever made it." Great Grandma Lucille would always say.

He grew up with an outhouse, a coal stove, an not much toys. "It's not like today with those them Lego's and Barbies."

He didn't get baptized until he was almost 9. His Grandma Jensen and him took the UIC electric car and went to the Logan temple and got baptized in the pretty font that had the golden ox around it. Not long after that they started baptisms in the wards.

He served in the Korean War . He met his wife, Afton Johnson, at a dance in 1957. Three dates later they eloped. Grandma Afton's mom said it would never last.

They had eight children - Kenneth (my daddyo), Karla, Vernetta, Stephen, Ron, Dorian, Katrina and Jennifer.

He had gone two rounds with chemo. But decided in June 2006 that he was tired and wanted to go home with his wife. He passed away holding my Grandma's hand and all his children standing around him. It was bittersweet for all of them.

I always watch a video my Aunt Jen had made with my Grandma Raymond about a year before he passed away from Malignant Melanoma (skin cancer). It's surreal to watch him because it seems like he hasn't gone anywhere. Still in his overalls, sitting in his seat, and saying "Hey Tawns. How ya' doing?" whenever I walked in the front room.

Micah never got to meet him. But loves whenever someone talks about him - especially my Grandma Afton. She's still healthy as a horse and loves every year when her birthday comes around because she's that much closer to being with Raymond again. She welcomes every age spot, wrinkle, backpain, and forgetfullness. They loved each other very much.

It was a special Easter because we got to remember what a great guy my Grandpa Raymond was - and how much love is in that family.

Jowls?

Catching up with blog posts! It's been a crazy few weeks (as always) we've had something to do every night. A few highlights have been when my niece Megan came to babysit for us while we went to The Roof with Micah's parents - which on a side note, they just left for a THREE WEEK vacation to Europe. I miss them already.

We went to a fun indoor swim park - Isla is still in swim lessons and is loving them. She was so funny today - she was making this weird growling noise the whole time, even when I dunked her under the water she would come out making the sound. Weirdo.

She loves waterslides too. Go figure.

We're loving dress up time. I almost feel bad when she spits up, or spills on an outfit....ok maybe not. She loves her sunglasses too - she keeps them on for a whole 10 minutes...before she figures that they are impeding her vision and rips them off.

We went to dinner with our neighbors/cousins last night. After we had about 2 people comment on her chunky chunky cheeks within 5 minutes Hali turned to us and said "They're like jowls. A cute little bulldog." We were laughing so hard. Because it's so true. She'll grow into them **crossing my fingers ;)**And because this has turned into a Isla Blog here's a pic of my babers and I. He's been spoiling me with taking Daddy Daugher dates and leaving mommy to zone out. Don't you just love when they do this?!? I never take sitting on the couch and staring at the tv for 30+ minutes uninterrupted. Now that I think about it, I can't even remember what I watched- my brain literally turned off.

We're headed up to Logan this weekend for Easter, hope everyone has a great holiday and drives safely!!

Good thing there was an overabundance of knowledge on hand. My dad and I were no help so we sat on our ammo can seats and ate lunch.

These look great, they are pretty much waterproof, and I'll get tunes, my Ipod will play with it, and the stereo and setup are under $100 for everything.

It was great to meet the club members finally! I appreciate the smiles, teaching, advise, and good times.

That night I also met up with a ton of Rugby buds and went to Wendover for Mike Ferrell's Bachelor Party!!!!!! Rarely do I pass through Tooele twice in one day, but I did.
It was awesome, some won (Dave) some lost (Me) but all had a great time saying congrats to an amazing guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brooke is lucky to have him, and He's lucky to have her!!!

Isla's Evolution of Sitting

Is our baby really 6 1/2 months already?? I can just remember propping her up everywhere. Boppy's and blankets were great. But now she hasn't fallen over/back for the last 5 days, so we are comfortable in saying she's a pro at sitting ;) But I can just remember when we were at target when she was 4 months old and she was doing "almost sitting" Or when we would do endless practicing of holding her hands and making her abs work out: But then when she was a week away from 6 months old she just started sitting by herself. I remember when Janae said they will flop all over the place and then all of a sudden in a matter of 2 weeks they would be sitting up all by themselves. And now our little girl is becoming stronger by the day and wants to be left by herself to explore and play. Yes I rhymed.
We just love her and hope we can remember these days when she's just sitting around.

Family Pictures 2011

We finally went to go and get some family photos done! We decided to try out FotoFly located in Draper. Isla was cracking us up - we got one photo of her semi-smiling. She wasn't crying, she wasn't fussy, she was just wondering what was going on, and who was the man making all the funny noises with the big black thing in front of his face doing...

See what I mean? We pretty much could have just photoshopped her face and put it in all the photos ;) But now onto the family photos and I need your help deciding which is the favorite:

Sleep

  • Our sweet little girl has been getting up early early in the mornings for the past two weeks. Micah and I are now geting a little "tired" of this routine.

  • She goes to bed at 9 with the same routine - bath, cuddles, bottle, bed - then wakes up between 4:30am-5:30am playing and jabbering. We do the regular thing - we come in quietly, don't turn the lights on, change her diaper, we don't pick her up, turn on the mobile, and hope that she'll go back to bed.

  • But then every hour until 7:30am she'll just wake up. Never screaming or crying just awake and ready to go for the early morning. I've read some websites, a few books, but now I'll turn to my best resource - other mommas!

  • If you had this problem what did you do? Do they grow out of this?

  • I'll go and catch a morning nap and wait for your responses...

p.s. my blog is doing the annoying thing of grouping all my paragraphs into one, and i can only think of bulleting them at this point, sorry!

6 Months

  • She's 6 months already! She started sitting up all by herself this past week in a half, waking up halfway through the night (always playing and talking) drooling, chewing, and everything that comes along with teething.

  • She loves her jumperoo, exersaucer, unfolding all my laundry, smiling when the camera is out, screaming at me when she gets upset, and chewing on my hair when I hold her.

  • We couldn't of asked for anything more.

  • I dug out a picture of Micah and I when we were little ones - Granted we'll all agree she is a spitting image of Micah - but when i tell someone she does look a little like me when I was a baby they aren't too sure. So here is some proof!

  • Micah David Richard Platt: Tawni Afton Jensen The eye shape and cheeks matches ;)
